How I Work

A little on my 'approach' to therapy, the types of challenges I help people with and what you can expect through our sessions.

rays of hope

My background

I have been in private practice since 2010 and have honed my therapy approach through more than a decade of seeing many people, each with their own unique challenges.

Previous to my private practice I worked as a clinician in children’s social care and then as Head of Clinical Practice in both Harrow and Kensington.

I have taught at UEL on the Professional Doctorate course in Educational and Child Psychology, and for Frontline, The Tavistock and The Centre for Systemic Social Work.

How I work

You'll be talking to me about very important, often complex aspects of your life, and so I always aim to create an environment in which clients can feel comfortable to open up, where you'll feel listened to, supported and understood.

I believe in being open about my own thinking as I have found that most people want a therapist who offers them ideas and some expertise. I try to do this in a way that encourages a dialogue and in a way that helps clients to access their own insight, expertise, skills and qualities.

My training background and the courses I've been through have provided me with a great many tools, approaches and insights. I certainly believe effective therapy involves a balance between being empathetic and supportive. I do believe effective therapy also sometimes requires challenge. If I I do choose to challenge you, I will always be respectful and supportive, as we work together to discover the things that will help you overcome unhelpful patterns.

This is never about judgement, and I believe in helping clients to develop self acceptance and self-compassion.

YOUR CHOICES ON HOW YOU RECEIVE THERAPY

I'm very happy to provide therapy either over the phone or via video calls, so it doesn't matter where you are in the world or how you would prefer to talk to me.  I also have a practice in Tufnell Park, London, which is just a 5 min walk from the tube station.

SUPERVISION

As part of the ethics and codes that I practice by - as set out by UKCP and AFT - I receive regular supervision, which of course remains confidential.

Have a look at the FAQs too, as there's plenty of useful information there.
